"夕方の路地は、少しだけ湿った匂いがした。\n\n雨が降ったわけでもないのに、石畳の隙間に溜まった水が、古い町の呼吸みたいにじわじわと滲んでいる。 \n俺はその路地を抜ける近道が好きで、仕事帰りによく通っていた。\n\nその日も、いつものように歩いていて——ふと、灯りに気づいた。\n\n小さな店だった。 \nいや、「店」というより、昔からそこにあった何かが、最近やっと名前を持ったみたいな場所。\n\n木の看板に、控えめに書かれている。\n\n**香草庵。**\n\n初めて見たときは、正直、やってるのかどうかも分からなかった。 \nけど今日は、ちゃんと灯りがついていて、薄く扉が開いていた。\n\nなんとなく、覗いた。\n\n——中は、思ったよりずっと静かだった。\n\n香りがする。 \n強くはないけど、どこか懐かしい匂い。 \n祖母の家の押し入れとか、乾いた布団とか、そういう記憶の奥にあるやつ。\n\n奥に、人がいた。\n\n細い、というか、頼りないというか。 \n姿勢が少しだけ崩れていて、でも妙に整って見える。\n\nその人は、客に何かを渡していた。\n\n「これ、夜に使うといいよ」\n\n声は、思ったより低かった。 \nでもやわらかい。\n\n客は若い女の人で、少し笑ってからそれを受け取って、何度も頭を下げて帰っていった。\n\n俺は、そのやり取りをぼんやり見てた。\n\n別に、特別なことは何もない。 \n薬局でも、雑貨屋でも、似たようなやり取りはある。\n\nでも、なんか違った。\n\nあの客、帰るとき、ちょっとだけ泣きそうな顔してたんだよな。 \nでも嫌な感じじゃなくて、むしろ、何かほどけたみたいな。\n\n——で、そのあと。\n\n奥の人と、目が合った。\n\n「あ」\n\nって顔をしたのは、向こうだった。\n\nなんか、こっちが覗いてたのバレてるのに、怒るでもなく、営業スマイルでもなく、ただ普通に\n\n「どうした？」\n\nって言ってきた。\n\nその「どうした」が、妙に距離が近い。\n\n初対面なのに、変に警戒されてない感じ。 \nでも、踏み込んでくるわけでもない。\n\n俺は、なんとなく誤魔化して\n\n「いや、通りすがりで……」\n\nって言った。\n\nそしたら、その人は少しだけ首をかしげて、\n\n「そっか」\n\nって、それだけ。\n\n普通なら「よかったらどうぞ」とか言うところだと思う。 \nでも、言わない。\n\n売ろうとしてない。 \nかといって、追い返す感じでもない。\n\nただ、そこにいる。\n\nなんだそれ、って思った。\n\n少しだけ気まずくなって、俺は「じゃあ…」って帰ろうとしたとき、後ろから声がきた。\n\n「眠れてる？」\n\n振り返った。\n\n「……まあ、普通に」\n\nって答えたけど、たぶんちょっと嘘だった。\n\nその人は、こっちをじっと見て、ほんの一瞬だけ考えるみたいな間を置いてから、小さな袋を差し出してきた。\n\n「これ、別に買わなくていいから。合わなかったら捨てて」\n\n雑すぎるだろ、と思った。 \n商売する気あるのか。\n\nでも、なんか断れなくて、受け取った。\n\n袋は軽くて、ほんのりあの匂いがした。\n\n「……いくら？」\n\n一応聞いたら、\n\n「いらない」\n\n即答だった。\n\n「いや、でも」\n\n「また来たらでいい」\n\nその言い方が、約束でも勧誘でもなくて、ただの事実みたいで。\n\n俺は結局、それ以上何も言えなくなって、店を出た。\n\n——その夜。\n\n正直、半信半疑で、その袋を開けた。\n\n中には、小さな布と、乾いた葉っぱ。\n\n説明も何もない。\n\n適当に枕元に置いて、寝た。\n\n気づいたら、朝だった。\n\n途中で目が覚めなかったの、いつぶりだろう。\n\nいつもなら、変な夢とか、妙な焦りで夜中に起きるのに。\n\nあの匂いのせいかどうかは分からない。 \nでも、なんか、久しぶりにちゃんと休んだ感じがした。\n\n——で、数日後。\n\nまた、あの路地を通った。\n\n気づいたら、足が止まってた。\n\n香草庵の灯りは、今日もついている。\n\n扉は、少しだけ開いている。\n\n中から、あの声がした。\n\n誰かに、何かを渡しながら、同じように言ってる。\n\n「無理しなくていいよ」\n\nなんなんだ、あの店。\n\nなんなんだ、あの人。\n\n俺はまだ、名前も知らない。 \n何をやってるのかも、ちゃんとは分からない。\n\nでもたぶん、また入ると思う。\n\nああいう場所って、たまにあるんだよな。\n\n必要なやつだけが、なんとなく見つける店。"

"きたね、「沼」。 \nこれはちょっと“静かに引きずり込まれる系”でいこう。\n\n---\n\n### ■タイトル \n**底の見えないやつ**\n\n---\n\n最初は、ただの散歩だった。\n\n気分転換に外に出て、知らない道を歩いてみただけ。 \n特に目的もなく、スマホも見ずに、ただ足の向くまま。\n\n気づいたら、見慣れない場所にいた。\n\n舗装が途切れて、土の道になる。 \n街の音が、少しずつ遠くなる。\n\n引き返せばいいのに、と思いながら、そのまま進んだ。\n\n理由はない。\n\nただ、なんとなく。\n\n——たぶん、それが最初だった。\n\n道の先に、水があった。\n\n池、というには暗すぎて、 \n湖、というには小さい。\n\n沼だ、と思った。\n\n風もないのに、水面だけがゆらゆら揺れている。\n\n覗き込むと、自分の顔が映る。\n\nでも、少しだけ違う。\n\n表情が、わずかに遅れて動く。\n\n目が合った気がして、思わず顔を上げた。\n\nそのまま離れればよかったのに、もう一度見た。\n\n今度は、ちゃんと同じ動きをしていた。\n\n気のせいかと思って、少し笑う。\n\nそのときだった。\n\nポケットの中で、何かが触れた。\n\n小さな袋。\n\n見覚えがある。\n\n香草庵でもらったやつだ。\n\nいつも通る道じゃないはずなのに、 \nなぜか前に一度だけ入ったことがある店。\n\nそのときも、こんなふうに—— \n“なんとなく”入った気がする。\n\n袋を取り出す。\n\n草の匂いが、少しだけ強くなった気がした。\n\n「開けないほうがいいよ」\n\n声がして、振り返る。\n\nいつの間にか、誰かが立っていた。\n\nあの店の人だ。\n\n相変わらず、感情の薄い顔。\n\n「……ここ、危ない？」\n\n聞くと、少しだけ考えるような間があった。\n\n「人による」\n\n曖昧な答え。\n\n「引っ張られる人は、戻れなくなる」\n\nさらっと言う。\n\n冗談には聞こえなかった。\n\nもう一度、水面を見る。\n\nさっきよりも、はっきりと映っている。\n\n自分の顔。\n\nでも、その“奥”に、何かある気がする。\n\n暗くて、深くて、でも目を離せない。\n\n「ねえ」\n\n気づいたら、聞いていた。\n\n「これ、何があるの」\n\n店の人は、少しだけ目を細めた。\n\n「好きなもの」\n\nその答えに、妙に納得してしまった。\n\n胸の奥が、少しざわつく。\n\nもう一歩、近づく。\n\n足元の土が、わずかに沈む。\n\n「……やめときな」\n\n珍しく、少しだけ強い声。\n\nでも、止まれなかった。\n\nだって——\n\n見たいと思ったから。\n\n何があるのか、知りたいと思ったから。\n\n足が、もう一段沈む。\n\n靴の中に冷たい感触が広がる。\n\nそれでも、目は逸らせない。\n\n水面の奥。\n\nそこに、何かがある。\n\n自分の“好き”が、形になって沈んでいるような気がする。\n\n触れたら、きっと全部分かる。\n\n全部、手に入る。\n\n——そう思った瞬間。\n\n腕を引かれた。\n\n強く、後ろに。\n\nバランスを崩して、尻もちをつく。\n\n息が荒くなる。\n\n気づけば、水面から少し離れていた。\n\n「……危なかったね」\n\n店の人が、いつも通りの声で言う。\n\nさっきの強さが嘘みたいに、静かだった。\n\n「……あれ、なんなんですか」\n\n喉が乾く。\n\nうまく声が出ない。\n\n少し間があって、答えが返ってくる。\n\n「沼だよ」\n\nそのままじゃん、と思う。\n\nでも、続きがあった。\n\n「ハマると、抜けられないやつ」\n\n乾いた笑いが出た。\n\n「知ってる言葉ですね」\n\n「でしょ」\n\nそれ以上は何も言わなかった。\n\n立ち上がって、靴についた泥を払う。\n\nまだ少し、足が震えている。\n\n「帰れる？」\n\n「……たぶん」\n\n「じゃあ、今日はそれでいいよ」\n\nそう言って、背を向ける。\n\n気づいたときには、もういなかった。\n\n一人で、来た道を戻る。\n\nさっきまでの空気が嘘みたいに、街の音が近づいてくる。\n\n振り返ると、もう沼は見えなかった。\n\n——帰り道。\n\nポケットの中の袋を、強く握る。\n\n開けなかった。\n\n開けたら、きっと何かが変わる気がしたから。\n\nそれがいいことなのか、悪いことなのか、分からない。\n\nただ一つだけ、分かったことがある。\n\nあれは、怖い場所じゃない。\n\nむしろ——\n\n“好きになりすぎる場所”だ。\n\nそれが一番、厄介なんだと思う。\n\nそれからも、たまに思い出す。\n\nあの水面の奥。\n\nあの感覚。\n\nそして、ふとした瞬間に思う。\n\nもう一度、行けばいいんじゃないかって。\n\n今度は、最後まで。\n\n——そう考えた時点で、\n\nたぶん、もう少しハマってる。\n\n---\n\nこのあと、例のコンテスト用セットすぐ仕上げるね。"
